Monica Wong Model The Wong Blog Everyday Natural Make Up

I name this project: ‘A Beauty Series’.

I asked my lovely Makeup Artist Giselle for some tips on how to do a natural look and then to top up for an exciting event for the night. Right, let’s start with natural. She told me it’s important to have a fresh face before you apply makeup.

    Natural Everyday Make-Up Look

    1. Cleanse. I soak a cotton pad with Lancome Eau Micellaire Douceur: the great thing about this toner is that you can use it on your whole face including your lips. Start from the forehead and make your way to the jawline, isn’t it so satisfying to see the removed excess oil and dirt from your skin?

    2. Rehydrate. I have awful dark circles. I’m yet to find an eye cream that works well for me, but for now, Lancôme Génifique Eye Cream does the trick. Squeeze a 5p amount with your fingers and pat it on the inner corners and outer eye. Try not to pull your lines, this could stretch your eye elasticity and that area is super sensitive.

    3. Moisturise. I use NARSskin Aqua Gel; it makes my skin soo’ soft and it’s perfect for pre-make up wear. Rub and massage onto face.

    4. Dark circles begone. I have a few favourite concealers, my favourite ‘save’ one is Garnier Caffeine Roll-On in fair (it comes in four shades) this one is ideal for everyday wear. My favourite ‘splurge’ one is NARS Stick Concealer in Ginger, omigawd, I love this concealer, it hides those bad boys bags away. Use your ring finger (because the eye area is sensitive) and blend in a circular motion.

    5. Lightly apply foundation onto face, I use NARS Sheer Matte Foundation in Ceylan, it matches my skin colour perfectly. Squeeze a bit onto your hand and use a stippling brush — apply it to the areas that need it most: the redness around the nose, chin and a little on the forehead.

    6. Tight-line your eyes (known as sneaky invisible lining). Using your usual eyeliner, I use M.A.C Eyeliner and draw the top lash line, this makes your lashes look fuller and thicker. Optional: fill in your eyebrows with M·A·C EYE BROWS.

    7. Curl lashes — the best one I’ve used is Shiseido. Apply mascara — I use Yves Saint Laurent because even though they’re thickening and lengthening, I have tiny and thin lashes and this mascara doesn’t make them look chavtastically unnatural. It’s my favourite mascara, like, ever.

    8. Use a rose shimmering blush Dior Blush in Rose Cherie and highlight the high points and the apples of your cheeks. Smile when you do it to highlight the main areas.

    9. Finish off with your favourite lip balm. I use either Vaseline or Burt’s Bees. Chapstick does the trick too.

Let me know if any of my favourite natural beauty goodies make it into your Christmas stocking this year.

How to wear purple lipstick The Wong Blog

How to wear purple lipstick is a question I’ve explored.

I mean, hey, that’s purple lipstick we’re talking about – super sexy, super edgy, super chic yet, super difficult to wear. Dark lipstick can make it seem like you’re trying to be Rihanna or just confused about when Halloween is. A lot of dark and vampy looking lips have been floating around in the AW14 fashion press. Without having any tenancies to start my Twilight vampire story — I’ve always been obsessed with the smoky Gothic look. There’s something sexy about bright, but mysterious eyes and oxblood lips. With the right makeup, anyone can rock this look (even though it’s more appropriate to wear in cold seasons or you’ll end up looking like a confused Emo).

To make it work for you: warm skin tones will suit a reddish to purple lipstick whereas cool skin tones will suit more cooling lipsticks. Keep your eye makeup natural, it’ll work to your advantage. In this shoot, Neon, my lovely Makeup Artist, didn’t build dark layers in the eyes. Opt for sexy, nicely lined cat eyes, or give a natural looking smoky eye a try. Lastly, flawless skin makes the perfect finish, you kind of want to keep the rest of your face neutral and shine-free, so grab your fave matte foundation and aim for full coverage, it’ll polish your skin up to that porcelain-like perfection. I’ve listed my favourite plum lipsticks and some of my other favourite gothic treats. Happy lipping!

A feminine, effortless and timeless dress by Alice by Temperley. The timelessness and sophistication of black are welcome to any wardrobe.

And where do you capture the elegance of an independent British luxury brand? At The Tate of course!

After the rain had stopped (hello British weather) we took my lovely dress for a spin in the park by the blossom trees, quiet pathways and a serene of London. Paired with a pinky red lip, we went for a makeup look of a hybrid of natural & glam; the products that the lovely Rachel used are below this post.

    Fire

Once upon a time, I wanted to start a Blog.

A place where I could log my experiences and create a scrapbook to look back on my life — while hoping that at least one poor sod would read it (that person most likely being myself).

With a full-time job, I have limited time to dedicate to my love of blogging. I’m thrilled to announce that as of today, I’m free as a bird. I quit my job to travel the world. They say your dreams. I’ll let you know if it was the right decision.

Today I relaunch this Blog with an editorial called Fire, shot by super talented Photographer: Ella H and creative Makeup Artist: Rachel at the Tate in London. A wonderful way to say goodbye to my beautiful city where I have lived for five years.

I name this post, Fire because red is the colour of energy, passion, and action; it’s also a symbol of luck in Chinese which I’ll be needing when embarking on my new journey. This ASOS billowing red chiffon maxi dress could quickly breathe new life into anyone.

ProjectM is a style, travel, beauty, and lifestyle Blog.

I will be launching my travel and foodie posts early 2015.

You’re welcome to join me in my adventure.
